Bio

John Williams is an ecologist and project scientist who worked at the Safford Lab until 2024, where he studied the effects of natural and prescribed fires on forest ecosystems. John coordinated the California Prescribed Fire Monitoring Program, a joint effort between UC-Davis and Cal Fire. He was also interested in the nexus between humans and natural systems, where his research examines issues related to climate change, species distribution, biodiversity conservation, and the interface between agriculture and natural habitat. After leaving the lab, he started as a fire science scientist at The Nature Conservancy.
