Mike Mahoney

For his dissertation, Mike aims to study how California's bird populations are impacted by land management and habitat restoration with the goal of further aligning land management and avian conservation outcomes. He has graduated in 2017 with a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Tulane University, where he collaborated with Dr. Jordan Karubian studying avian behavioral response to forest management practices in Northwestern Ecuador. Since, he has contributed to research efforts studying the effects of fire, restoration, forest stewardship, and global change on California bird populations primarily with Point Blue Conservation Science where he worked as an Avian Ecologist, leading mentorship initiatives at the Palomarin Field Station.
